LineGoblin Privacy Policy
Effective date:
This Privacy Policy explains what information LineGoblin collects, why, and what control you have over it. It covers the LineGoblin mobile application, the linegoblin.com website, and related services (the “Service”).
The Service is operated by AT Foundry LLC, doing business as LineGoblin (“LineGoblin,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).
Using the Service is also subject to our Terms of Service.
1. The Short Version
LineGoblin is built to need as little of your information as possible. In plain terms:
- your cards and the photos in them stay on your device;
- you do not need an account, and we do not ask you to create one;
- the app measures which features get used, and you can switch that off in Settings; the website has no analytics or third-party scripts at all;
- we do not use advertising or cross-app tracking software anywhere;
- we do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising; and
- apart from the usage measurement above, the only information that leaves your device is what you deliberately send — a purchase, an email to us, or a card you choose to share.
The sections below give the detail behind each of those statements.
2. Information You Provide
You provide the following when you choose to:
- Card content — the subject, stat label, line, choices, and other text you type into a card.
- Photos — images you select from your photo library, or take with your camera.
- Email address — if you ask us to tell you when the app launches, or if you email us.
- Support messages — whatever you write to us when you get in touch.
Card content and photos are stored on your device and are not transmitted to us. See section 4.
3. Information Collected Automatically
The LineGoblin app measures how its features are used, through PostHog. It records which screens you open and which actions you take — a card created, a photo added, a card shared, a layout chosen, a purchase started and how it ended. It does not contain advertising, attribution or fingerprinting software, it does not assign you an advertising identifier, and it does not track you across apps or websites.
What it never records is the content of your cards. Not the subject, the stat, the line, or any other word you type, and not your photos. Only counts and the names of features — that a card was created, never what it says. Usage measurement is also the only thing in the app you can switch off: Settings › Privacy › Anonymous usage data. Turning it off stops collection entirely, including the crash and error reports described below.
The app reports errors and crashes it encounters to PostHog so they can be fixed. An error report contains the technical details of the failure and the device model and operating system version, not your cards.
When you visit linegoblin.com, our hosting provider records standard server request logs, which typically include your IP address, the page requested, the time of the request, and your browser’s user-agent string. These logs are used to serve the site and to keep it secure and available. The website loads no third-party scripts and no third-party fonts.
Apple and Google may independently collect information about downloads, purchases, and crashes under their own privacy policies. We receive only the aggregate reports they choose to provide, which do not identify you.
4. Your Cards Stay on Your Device
Cards, settings, and the photos you add are stored locally — in the app’s own storage on your phone, or in your browser’s local storage on the web. There is no LineGoblin account and no LineGoblin server holding your cards.
This has a few consequences worth knowing:
- deleting a card also deletes the copy of its photo that the app made;
- uninstalling the app removes your cards, and we cannot restore them;
- your cards do not sync between devices; and
- your device backup, if you use one, may include your cards. That backup is governed by Apple’s or Google’s privacy policy, not ours.
5. Photo Search
LineGoblin does not currently search for images, and sends nothing to any image search service. Photos come from your own photo library or camera.
Earlier versions of the app could search openly licensed images through Openverse (openverse.org) and Wikimedia Commons (commons.wikimedia.org). That feature is turned off, and the app makes no requests to those services.
This section is kept rather than removed so the change is visible to anyone who read the previous version. If image search returns, we will describe it here and move the effective date before it ships.
6. Photos, Camera, and Sharing
Choosing a photo requires your permission to access your photo library, taking one requires permission to use your camera, and saving a finished card requires permission to add to your library. You can grant or revoke each in your device settings.
The app only reads the specific images you select. It does not scan your library, and it does not upload your photos to us. A photo you take in the app is used for the card you are making and is stored on your device like any other; the camera is only active while you are taking it.
When you share or export a card, it leaves LineGoblin and is handled by whatever app, platform, or person you send it to, under their terms and privacy policies. A card you post publicly is public.
7. Purchases
Paid features are sold through Apple’s App Store and Google Play. Those platforms process the payment. We never receive your card number, billing address, or other payment details.
We receive confirmation of whether a purchase or subscription is active, so the app can unlock the features you paid for.
Refunds, cancellations, and billing records are handled by the platform you purchased through, under its privacy policy.
8. Email
If you give us your email address to hear about the launch, we use it to send you that announcement and occasional product updates — nothing else. It is not sold, rented, or shared for advertising.
We store the address, and the date you gave it to us, in a database we operate. That database is hosted on our behalf by Neon (neon.tech), which holds the data but does not use it. We do not record your IP address or your browser details alongside it.
Every message we send includes a way to unsubscribe, and you can ask us to delete your address at any time by writing to privacy@linegoblin.com — we remove it from the database on request.
If you email us for support, we keep the message and our reply for as long as needed to help you and to keep a record of the issue.
9. What We Do Not Do
To be explicit, LineGoblin does not:
- sell your personal information;
- share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising;
- show you advertising;
- build advertising or marketing profiles about you;
- track you across other apps or websites;
- read, scan, or index the cards you make; or
- use your photos or card content to train machine-learning models.
10. When We Disclose Information
We do not sell your information. We disclose the limited information described in this policy only:
- to the service providers named here, so they can do their part — app-store billing, website hosting, the database that holds the launch-notification list, and PostHog for the app usage measurement described in section 3;
- when you direct us to, such as by sharing a card;
- to comply with law, a valid legal request, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of users, the public, or LineGoblin; and
- in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, in which case we will require that this policy continue to apply or give you notice of the change.
11. Retention
Cards and photos live on your device until you delete them or uninstall the app. We hold no copy, so there is nothing for us to retain.
Email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Support messages are kept for as long as needed to resolve the issue and to keep a reasonable record.
Server logs from the website are kept for a short period for security and reliability purposes, then discarded or aggregated.
Usage and error records are kept by PostHog under its retention settings. They are not tied to an account, because there is none — switching the setting off stops new records being made.
12. Security
We use reasonable measures to protect the limited information we hold, including encrypted connections for anything the app or site sends over the internet.
Because your cards stay on your device, their security depends largely on your device — a passcode, biometric lock, and device encryption protect them the same way they protect your photos.
No product or transmission method is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
13. Children
LineGoblin is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, write to privacy@linegoblin.com and we will delete it.
14. Your Choices and Rights
Because your cards are on your device, you have direct control over most of your information:
- delete a card in the app to remove it and its photo;
- uninstall the app to remove everything it stored;
- change photo and photo-library permissions in your device settings; and
- unsubscribe from any email we send.
Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you, correction of it, deletion of it, a portable copy of it, or to opt out of sale or sharing — which, as stated above, we do not do. You may also have the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
To make a request, write to privacy@linegoblin.com. We may need to ask for information to verify who you are, and we will not use it for anything else. You may use an authorized agent where the law allows it.
15. Where Your Information Is Processed
LineGoblin is operated from the United States, and the limited information described here is processed there.
If you use the Service from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be processed in a country whose data-protection laws may differ from those of your own.
16. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the Service changes. When we make material changes, we will provide reasonable notice through the Service, by email, or by updating the effective date at the top of this page.
If a future version of LineGoblin collects information this policy does not describe — analytics, accounts, or cloud sync, for example — we will update this policy before that feature ships.
